How Pret is responding to Coronavirus
A message from Pano, our CEO.
Keep telling us what you think.
7th May 2020
Dear Pret Customers,
We’ve learned a huge amount in the past few weeks while getting used to the new safety and social distancing measures we’ve put in place to protect our teams and customers.
It’s been fantastic to see so many of you respecting the changes we’ve made, and we’re extremely grateful for your ongoing support. We’ve also had a great response from those ordering through our delivery partners, enjoying their Pret favourites again from home.
This has given us the confidence to reopen a further 71 shops from Monday 11th May, including in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester. As the government has advised, these shops will be open for takeaway and delivery only.
The Pret experience for both our customers and teams will continue to feel very different. For example, each shop will be fitted with Perspex screens at the tills, we will restrict the number of customers in our shops, we’ll provide hand sanitiser for customers, and face coverings to our Team Members who prefer to wear one. You can see more of our safety measures here.
Gradually reopening our shops also means that we can work with more of our homeless charity partners across the UK, getting our unsold food to those who really need it.
Our opening times and menu will still be limited, however we’re adding more of our most popular products, including the Avo, Olives & Toms baguette and our Swedish Meatball Hot Wrap. We will also launch a ‘Heat Me At Home’ Macaroni Cheese range, so you can easily cook a well-loved Pret recipe at home.
Once again, I’d like to say thank you to all our Team Members who have returned or are returning to work. This has been a trying time for us all and your continued commitment to Pret means a lot.
You can find a list of all our reopened and reopening shops here.
With love,
Pano

Dear Pret Customers,
It has been two weeks since we reopened 10 shops close to hospitals and restarted food donations to our charity partners. These Pret shops look and feel a little different thanks to the new safety and social distancing measures we’ve put in place, and I believe we’ve found a way to operate that reflects the Government’s guidance and looks after our teams and customers.
We’ve loved hearing the feedback from NHS workers and customers who’ve visited these shops or ordered our food and coffee for delivery - it seems that absence really does make the heart grow fonder.
Tomorrow morning we will reopen a further 20 shops in London for takeaway and delivery across all major platforms, helping more people get access to freshly made food. I’m also pleased to say that we are extending our 50% discount for NHS workers until 15th May and will of course be ensuring our unsold food goes to even more of our charity partners.
I want to say a huge thank you to those Team Members who are going back to work tomorrow – we are incredibly grateful for your dedication, especially during these challenging times.
You can find a list of all our reopened shops here. We’ll keep on learning from these shops as we look to reopen more over the coming weeks.
With love,
Pano

Dear Pret Customers,
I wanted to thank you for sticking with us through this crisis and while we have been closed.
Since we temporarily closed our doors, our charity vans have donated 477,000 Pret items to 138 of our charity partners and 40 hospitals. But we’ve also been hearing from local NHS workers and hospitals that they want to be able to access freshly made food nearby. At the same time, our homeless charity partners and the Evening Standard, via its Food For London Now appeal, have made it clear that more needs to be done to support vulnerable people through this epidemic.
We have given some careful thought to how Pret could rise to this challenge, ensuring that we do so safely and in line with government guidance.
We are incredibly grateful that 160 Team Members have volunteered to help reopen 10 shops in London, located close to hospitals. In doing so, this will help give frontline healthcare workers better access to freshly prepared food while also getting our supply chain up and running again to deliver food to the homeless.
These shops will open tomorrow for takeaway and delivery only, offering a reduced range of Pret favourites, as well as a selection of essentials like milk, bread and butter. We’re bringing back our 50% discount for NHS workers until the end of the month and 7,000 additional meals per week will be donated to our charity partners, including The Felix Project as part of the Evening Standard’s appeal.
My priority is always to protect our teams and customers as best we can, which means we have put in place a number of new social distancing measures to align with the government’s guidance.
A huge thank you to our teams who have volunteered to run these shops. To find out which of our shops are now open, click here.

Dear Pret Customers,
I want to thank our amazing teams for serving you with so much passion and kindness over the recent weeks, including more than 100,000 NHS workers.
Pret’s first value is Happy Teams, Happy Customers and my priority is always to protect our teams as much as we can. For this reason, we will be closing all our UK shops temporarily from this evening. We will of course ensure any excess food goes to those who need it.
We look forward to being a part of your daily lives again soon. Until then, stay healthy and look after each other.
With love,
Pano

Dear Pret Customers,
Now more than ever, you need to be able to pick up freshly made food quickly.
So from today, we will be operating mainly as a takeaway business, with our seating areas closed.
We are also inviting all NHS workers to enjoy their hot drinks on the house and 50% off everything else. Thank you for all that you are doing. We look forward to serving you.
We continue to change our opening hours as necessary. Our priorities remain the wellbeing of our team members and all of you.
With love,
Pano

Dear Pret Customers,
Thank you for making Pret a part of your everyday life. We are living in unprecedented times, and as the everyday is rapidly changing, I want to reassure you that everyone at Pret is devoted to taking care of you when you shop with us.
The Pret family takes pride in the standards we have in our shops and we’re dedicated to creating safe, delicious food and coffee, prepared and served by our wonderful team members.
We are closely monitoring advice from the Government to ensure Pret makes any necessary changes. Here are some of the steps we are taking in the UK in response to Coronavirus:
• We continue to reinforce regular, thorough hand washing for all our team members. We use industry grade antibacterial hand soap and our teams always thoroughly wash their hands every 30 minutes in our kitchens. We’re also making sure that all team members wash their hands immediately after handling money and before starting a new task.
• We will no longer be accepting reusable cups - however we will honour the discount if you bring your cup. We have also removed water cups from our free water stations.
• We have moved all cutlery and napkins to behind our tills, so they can be passed to you by a Team Member.
• We continue to sanitise all surfaces that are regularly touched by our teams or customers at a minimum of every 30 minutes.
• We are carefully following Government advice around ensuring that team members self-isolate as required. We have a comprehensive employee assessment process for all those who work for us.
Our shops remain open, however you can expect to see some changes to opening hours as we respond to changing needs. We are committed to looking after our teams while we are adapting, and we continue to donate our unsold food to shelters at the end of each day.
If you have any questions at all, please get in touch with me at Pano@pret.com.
I hope that you and your families stay healthy and are looking after each other. If we have any further updates, I will keep you posted.
With love from everyone at Pret,
Pano Christou
